Competition Dancing

What is Competition Dancing?
We encourage any student who wants to test his or her skill in a larger arena to consider competition Pro-Am dancing. Your instructor can design a lesson program that will get you ready to compete against dancers at your skill level at local and regional Dancesport Championships. It will give you a chance to take your dancing to levels beyond social dancing.

Competitions cover all styles of dancing: International and American style; latin and ballroom, and even specialty categories such as Theater Arts. Contestant categories from Newcomer to Championship assure that you will be dancing with other dancers at your level.

Your instructor has all the details, and will help you select the dances and categories for your first "Comp."

Congratulations Teachers & Students!
For the second consecutive year, Dance New York is the winner of the Top Studio Award at the 2010 Northeast Open Invitational Championships in Stamford, Ct. 17 students and their instructors competed in this 3-day event, and came away with 132 gold medals! It was an outstanding weekend. We encourage you to join us in future competitions.

The National Dance Council of America (NDCA) has a full schedule of competitions throughout the year. You can see their 2010 calendar by clicking on the link. Other organizations offer comps, so if you do not see one that suits your schedule, speak to someone at the studio, and we will find a comp at a time that works for you.
